Food tastes better when it's from your own soil.

Sheffield is a green city. Due to this, as well as the proximity to the Peak District, it has long been a hub for those interested in, and passionate about, the great outdoors.

Naturally, this means that plenty of its residents are green fingered, too. There are many allotments in Sheffield, and they’ve never been more sought after.

Applications exploded during the wave of Covid lockdowns and haven’t settled down since – it’s not hard to see why. I think it’s a natural urge to want to have your own slice of land to cultivate and work on.

My neighbours are lucky enough to have their own little Eden. In the Summer of 2023 I was able to pitch in and help them out – digging and planting and tidying in return for a portion of the rich harvest.

I decided I’d like to document this, and started to pack my camera alongside my lunch box and gloves.

This is a visual testimony of a Summer well spent.
